A PLA 2026 Virtual Conference On-Demand Webinar
This on-demand webinar highlights librarian's experiences and strategies used to enhance inclusivity of youth with disabilities in makerspace programming. During the last three years, our research team has been conducting a study on the design and accessibility of public library makerspaces and maker programming for youth with disabilities. The case study shares some practical strategies and examples is from one of the public libraries we visited for our study.

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this on-demand webinar, participants will be able to:
- Learn about the best practices being used in makerspaces and maker programming for youth with disabilities;
- Identify strategies for promotions and outreach to better reach, invite, and serve youth with disabilities in library makerspaces; and
- Recognize challenges that affect the implementation of inclusive makerspaces for youth with disabilities and strategies to navigate some of the challenges.

Panelists
Dr. June Abbas is Director and a Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies. She graduated with a PhD in information science from the University of North Texas in 1998. She was awarded the 2016 Kilgour Award from OCLC/ALA LITA. Her research interests include youth and the socio-cognitive factors associated with use of information technology, the role of libraries as transformative organizations, and human-centered design and knowledge organization within various contexts.
Dr. Yong Ju Jung is an Assistant Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies, University of Oklahoma. Her research focuses on informal learning and data literacy of youth in public libraries and museums.
Moses Munyao is a recent doctoral graduate in the school of library and information studies at The University of Oklahoma. Their research interests are in intellectual freedom, censorship and collection development policies.
