While the data clearly shows that a school library program with a certified school librarian has a positive impact on student achievement, getting administrators and teachers to recognize the importance of the school librarian is a challenge. With schools across the country shut down due to the current crisis, it’s more important than ever that school librarians take the reins of their own careers through bold leadership.

This eCourse shows you how you can become a visible leader in your school and community while still dealing with your day-to-day responsibilities. Using her popular book Leading for School Librarians: There Is No Other Option as the text (an electronic copy of which will be included in the course materials), Hilda Weisburg builds on her decades of experience and mentorship in school libraries to offer a carefully crafted roadmap that guides you step by step through the process of transforming into a leader, from becoming aware of what's at stake to learning and mastering the necessary skills for leadership.

By participating in this course, you will:

  • Identify barriers, real and imagined, which have kept you from being the leader you need to be
  • Improve your teaching skills and demonstrate them to key stakeholders
  • Progress from applying simple leadership skills to more complex skills
  • Understand the communication skills needed to ensure the messages you send will be received
Hilda K. Weisburg was a school librarian for over 30 years. Starting in 1980, she co-wrote and edited School Librarian’s Workshop, a bi-monthly newsletter for K-12 librarians.
