This interactive lunch & learn event offers participants a chance to engage with UX practitioners both inside and outside of library contexts to discuss and question UX techniques and perspectives across a variety of positions and technical skill levels. Appropriate for individual in a variety of roles and with differing UX experience levels, this breakout room discussion event will enable participants the opportunity to learn and share with others on several UX topics. Discussion notes (including breakout room leader recommended resources) will be shared following the session. 

By participating in this interactive lunch & learn event, participants will be able to :

  • Articulate the relationship between accessibility and UX
  • Understand how and feel prepared to advocate for UX improvements
  • Develop a UX recruitment strategy for their context
  • Make connections with others sharing similar interests

This lunch & learn is for anyone with any level of experience who is interested in discussing UX techniques and perspectives with others

Breakout room topics and leaders:

UX & Accessibility: Angie Brunk is an Academic Services Librarian ( Assistant Professor) at Kansas State University. With over 15 years of experience as a public services librarian at several institutions, she has been able to see how people of many backgrounds actually interact with complex technology

UX & Tools and Techniques: Dan Jones is a UX Designer for Garmin in Kansas City where he works on smartwatches and other tools for outdoor enthusiasts. 

Advocating for the Value of UX: Kenbra Deere is a design thinking experience lead with State Farm. While her background is heavy in Human-centered design and design thinking, she leverages the power of those methodologies for more than just products. 

Tips and Tricks for Recruiting Users: Kristin Meyer is currently Associate Dean at Grand Valley State University and was previously their User Experience librarian. She has extensive experience in UX design in libraries.
