Creating policies and procedures are the backbone of library operations. Policies and procedures influence everything from circulation to staff training. Ever have a difficult patron or a dispute? Conflict is hard enough to deal with, but not having an answer makes the situation worse for you and the patron. What about library staff? A lack of procedure makes it harder for you and your staff to set boundaries, understand their patron-base, recognize their needs, and how it fits into the library mission. Creating policies and follow-through procedures are vital for libraries to set up guidelines and ensure the diverse needs of patrons are being met.
During this webinar, the participant will:
- Develop an understanding of policies and how they influence decisions and audiences
- Learn how to create a policy, communicate effectively, and enforce policies
- Identify what types of policies work for your library, factoring in patron audience and library mission
- Create procedures and decision-making to model policies and meet diverse patron needs
